Supreme Court (SC) ratifies the decision of Nepal Film Development Board (NFDB) to classify Nepali movies and theatres on Wednesday, March 25. Filmmaker KP Pathak had filed a now--cancelled writ against the NFDB decision on February 1, 2012. According to Tara Kumar Shrestha, NFDB’s lawyer, the writ was cancelled by the bench of judges Sushila Rayamajhi and Jagadish Sharma for being unreasonable.
Due to proliferation of film industry , NFDB had decided to implement classification policy to ensure the quality of movies and theatres. After Pathak filed a writ, SC had issued a stay order in the name of NFDB.
Dharmendra Marmouta "Pappu", the then chairman of NFDB, had come together with agitating filmmakers in the classification decision. Sitting Chairman Suresh Darpan Pokhrel has hinted to implement the policy without much ado.
