Box Office plans announced in budget, government set to regulate film industry

The government has decided to implement Box Office system from the upcoming year in a bid to boost tax collection from the film industry. Although the implementation of Box Office was already announced by Film Development Board (FDB), it has now got full government backing as the plans for it are part of the recently announced budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Finance Minister Yuvraj Khatiwada, who presented the budget, said the government will implement e-ticketing and Box-Office system compulsorily nationwide. He said it will help the government collect VAT and tax while helping regulate the film industry and promoting fair play within the industry. He also announced other plans for the film industry including tax waiver for films with social messages.
